Patented R&D · Artificial Vocal Chord

Giving voice
back to the silent.

Sathvani is a research and development lab building the world's first patented artificial vocal chord — a soft bio-electronic prototype engineered to restore natural speech for people who have lost theirs.

01 — Mission

Speech is identity. When it fails, so does a piece of the self. We're rebuilding it — not replacing it.

Over 65 million people live with severe voice disorders. Existing solutions — electrolarynxes, esophageal speech, text-to-speech devices — sound mechanical, distant, other. Sathvani exists to end that compromise.

02 — Prototype

A soft, resonant membrane — tuned by the body's own airflow.

Our patented device sits at the site of the original vocal folds. A biocompatible elastomer membrane, driven by micro-actuators, oscillates in response to subglottal pressure — reproducing the natural harmonics of a human voice rather than synthesizing sound electronically.

  • Biocompatible medical-grade elastomer
  • Sub-millimeter piezoelectric actuation
  • Passive airflow driven — no battery in-throat
  • Personalized frequency profile per patient

03 — Technology

Research, running quietly in the background.

Acoustics
Harmonic modeling

Finite-element simulation of soft-tissue resonance across 80–1100 Hz.

Materials
Biocompatible polymers

In-house PDMS composites tested for 10⁷ oscillation cycles.

Signal
Neural intent decoding

sEMG pickup on the strap muscles translates intent to pitch and volume.

Clinical
Surgical protocol

Minimally invasive transoral placement with existing ENT workflows.

Firmware
Adaptive control loop

On-device DSP tunes the membrane in real time to the patient's airflow.
